Overview: Hard One-Piece Tonneau Covers

Hard One-Piece Tonneau Covers are known for their single piece construction which makes them extremely durable. These covers fit over top of your truck bed and lift up from the back, often guided with hydraulic struts for easy use. Because there are less pieces and parts, they are easier to operate, and more secure against break-ins and weather than other types of truck bed covers. They do prevent full truck bed access while mounted, but they can be removed if necessary. The solid, single piece construction means they are more durable and long lasting than the other styles of tonneau cover.
The UnderCover LUX Tonneau Cover is one of our more popular models of hard tonneau covers. This cover is constructed of a durable, lightweight ABS composite material that covers the entire truck bed when installed. This tonneau cover has a single point lock that controls both locking hinges to make getting in and out of your truck bed as simple as possible. When closed, the UnderCover LUX tonneau cover seals the full perimeter around your truck bed to provide maximum protection against rain and moisture.
UnderCover LUX Tonneau Cover | Auto Truck Depot | Calgary, AB Canada
Hard top tonneau covers are the best option if you want full protection for your truck bed. These covers are the most watertight, durable and secure covers available due to their solid one-piece design, and they look great on any pickup truck. The covers can even be painted to match the colour of your vehicle.

2016 Toyota Tacoma Recalls 310 Units to Replace Airbag Bolts

Toyota has always held a standard for high quality, long lasting vehicles, and the Tacoma is no exception. Unfortunately, due to the possibility of a manufacturing error when securing the driver's knee airbag module, 310 of these mid-sized trucks were recalled last year.

2016 Toyota Tacoma
Although minor, this manufacturing error could cause the airbags to loosen over time, preventing them from firing properly when needed.
Despite the embarrassment, Toyota has owned up to the error and made great effort to fix it, which is what I would hope to expect from any vehicle manufacturer.
Toyota has always made great pickup trucks, and despite this hiccup their 2016 Tacoma is a model worth checking out. It features touchscreen audio with voice recognition, USB input and Bluetooth capabilities, and offers exceptional fuel economy. My hope is that this mistake won't impact the future of this pickup, which is one of my personal favourites.

UnderCover Flex Tonneau Cover

Tonneau covers are one of the best ways to enhance your truck bed. They provide security for your cargo while protecting it from the elements, and make truck bed storage more useful. If you are thinking about adding a Tonneau Cover to your truck, the UnderCover Flex is a product you must consider.

The UnderCover Flex exceeds the competition with durability, functionality, and security. This cover is made for simplicity. There is absolutely no drilling necessary for installation, and once installed, removing it is easy. Unlike most other tonneau covers, the UnderCover Flex is made of a high quality FRP composite material that is lighter, stronger, and even more dent resistant than aluminum. If security is a consideration, this product has it.

The flex panels automatically latch to the cover's mounting rails and the slam latch system secures your belongings when the tailgate is locked. The UnderCover Flex sits inside the bed rails, which include a rubber seal and drain tubes that carry water away from, and out of the truck bed--making this the most water resistant cover yet, and ensuring your cargo stays dry and protected.

Slam latches ensure your cargo is secure, and also allows for easy access from either side of your truck bed. The UnderCover Flex has three riding positions: full coverage, 3/4 coverage, and full bed access, and with the unique design of the prop rods, the cover can be safely propped in either of these positions, even while driving, for maximum storage and functionality.

Overview: Swagman Bike Racks

Travelling with bikes is challenging. They are awkward, they take up a lot of space, and even if you have an empty truck box to carry them in, damages to your bike or truck bed are likely to occur. Luckily for avid bike enthusiasts who refuse to travel without the accompaniment of their bikes, companies like Swagman make outstanding products to solve these issues.

The SEMI 2.0 fits most bike frame shapes and sizes, and with its unique patented design, there is zero contact to the bike frame. The SEMI 2.0 fits any 1-1/4” or 2” hitch receiver to carry up to two bikes on the back of your vehicle with ratcheting arms that only grab the bike’s wheels.

Products such as these ensure that you can safely carry your bikes with any vehicle, and without losing space. And if that’s not enough, the rack tilts down to allow access to the rear of the vehicle, even while bikes are loaded.

If a two bike carrier is not enough, Swagman has many other products to satisfy your needs, such as the QUAD 2+2, which can carry up to four bikes and has a similar design as the SEMI 2.0. There are also products, such as the Ladder Rack – 2 BikeRV Ladder Rack that is designed to utilize the ladder on the back of your RV for carrying up to two bikes. No matter what type of vehicle you have, or how many bikes you want to carry, Swagman has products to utilize your vehicles space while ensuring your bikes remain secure when you travel.

Enhance Your Experience With Vehicle Lighting

One of the most important aspects to consider when driving is lighting. Headlights let us to see the road in front of us, signal lights let other drivers know when we are turning, and braking lights prevent other vehicles from running into us when we are stopping. Without lights driving would be chaotic to say the least.

Advances in automotive lighting have made driving much more enjoyable, decorative, and functional, and with the various products available, these benefits can be taken even further.

Imagine that you are late pulling into a camp site and are forced to setup in the dark. You have your headlights lighting the spot you will be setting up, but digging through the gear packed in your truck box is the real challenge.

This can all be changed with truck bed LED lighting products from Access and other manufacturers. The Access Truck Bed Light is cost effective, only takes seconds to install, only needs a 12 volt power source, and it is fully waterproof. The best part is that you will no longer have troubles finding things in your truck bed with this powerful light source. These lights can also be added to other products such as trailers, boats, or RVs. There are also battery powered lights as well, if 12 volt won't work for your application

If you are an adventure seeker that likes to take your vehicle off the road, you may want to consider adding some heavy duty custom lighting to your vehicle, such as some LED Flood Lights from Rigid Industries. These lights are as durable as they come, and with over 1,568 raw lumens, you’ll be able to find your way anywhere. The lights are built to be unbreakable and versatile, so they can get you where you want to go.

Utilizing Your Small Vehicle for Big Adventures

Having a small vehicle doesn’t mean you can’t prepare it for big adventures. There are many ways to utilize and enhance your vehicle’s cargo space. Whether you are operating a hitch or taking advantage of your roof space, the Auto Truck Depot has many options to help you out.

One of the primary methods used to gain more space in a small vehicle is with a roof rack, like the Thule Traverse. A roof rack usually consists of two crossbars that run across the top of the car. The crossbars are held in place by feet, which are connected to each corner of the roof, usually in the door’s frames. The crossbars sit a few inches above the vehicle and provide space for objects to be placed without scratching or damaging its surface. Large objects such as boats or ladders can be placed across the roof, and the crossbars provide an anchoring point for objects to be strapped down to.

There are many accessories available to enhance the storage capabilities of your roof rack even further, such as the Yakima Loadwarrior. The loadwarrior cargo basket helps secure items for transport on top of the roof and out of the interior of your vehicle, allowing more space and comfort while driving from place to place.  The open air platform allows easy access to tie down materials and gives you added flexibility with items that wouldn’t normally fit in an enclosed compartment. The large steel constructed frame fits on top of most vehicles and has custom wind fairing for extra noise reduction. The universal attachment system fits most round and square factory crossbars. The accessory bars act as crossbars for gear specific racks and give you added security when transporting more expensive and personal items. It was developed with on-the-go type people in mind, allowing a quick and easy load that maximizes the utility of your car.

If more security and protection for your cargo is necessary, the Yakima cargo carriers, SkyBox or RocketBox series may be a better option yet. These boxes are like an extra trunk for you roof, and they simply attach to your existing roof rack to expand your vehicles storage space. They come in various sizes for your specific needs, and you can be sure your gear is safe with its solid carbonite design and push-button, locking security features.

Another option, especially useful if you plan on carrying bikes, is to increase your vehicles carrying capabilities with a hitch. Even if your vehicle is too small to pull a trailer, you can still utilize this feature to carry bikes, cargo racks, and more. And better yet, you can use this feature along with a roof rack to turn your vehicle into a cargo-hauling beast. There are so many ways to utilize your small vehicle for those big adventures, and the Auto Truck Depot is here to help.

Get the Most Out of Your Truck Bed

There’s no denial that trucks are one of the most useful vehicles you can own. They can carry cargo, pull trailers, and ultimately, increase efficiency. One of the primary benefits to having a truck is the additional space of the truck bed.

There are many products available to help you maximize the use of your truck bed space, but why would you need these?

Let’s start with some examples of common issues you may run into and some available solutions.

1. Your truck bed is being damaged from hauling cargo

This problem is not only aesthetic, but can accelerate damage beyond repair. Nicks and scratches in the protective coating can soon result in the spread of rust.

Solutions:
Truck Bed Mats
Truck bed mats are easy to install, cheap, and provide protection to the bottom of your truck bed and tailgate. The only downside to these is that the sides of your truck bed remain exposed.

Plastic Bed Plastic Liners
Plastic bed liners are quick and easy to install and provide full protection of your truck bed. They are made of high-density polyethylene, so it will not chip, crack, or fade during even the most extreme weather conditions. The liner’s one-piece construction provides additional protection against chemical leaks, since there are no seams or cracks.
Truck Bed Spray Liners
Spray liners provide a clean, permanent solution for protecting your truck bed. The Polyurethane Spray is applied to every mould and curve, providing a watertight seal, and the ultimate protection. Spray liners provide a textured, non-skid surface, and with no loss of cargo space.

2. Your cargo is exposed to the elements

Covering your cargo and protecting it from the elements can be easy with a tonneau cover, and there are many types so suite your specific needs.

Solutions:
Soft or Hard Roll-Up Tonneau Cover
Roll-up tonneau covers are great additions to cover and protect the cargo being stored in your truck bed. They easily roll up, providing full access of your truck bed without removing the cover, and they look slick.

Soft or Hard Tri Fold Tonneau Cover
These covers provide exceptional protection, they look great, and are easy to use. The tri-fold design allows for easy access. Many of these models are also insulated to protect your cargo from extreme weather conditions.

Hard Top Once Piece Tonneau Cover
One piece covers are solid, they protect your cargo, and they are easy to install. Once installed, they provide easy access to your cargo.

3. There’s no way to prevent theft

Solutions:
Tonneau Cover
Many Tonneau covers are designed with locking systems to protect your storage. Your cargo can be easily stored, locked and protected with the right cover.

Truck Boxes
Truck Boxes come in all shapes and sizes to meet your specific needs, and they are designed to hold and protect your belongings. Many of these boxes are designed with advanced locking systems and are constructed of tough aluminum. They come in all shapes and sizes to match any need.

4. Organizing your storage is difficult

Solutions:
Truck Boxes
Multiple lid truck boxes allow you to organize and store your cargo, provide security to your belongings, and provide easy access. There are many different box styles and shapes to suite your specific needs, and to help you organize your belongings. Many of these boxes are even designed to utilize and increase storage space, such as the Pork Chop Boxes, made to fit over your wheel well.

Tool Boxes
Tool boxes are a great way to enhance your storage by providing a secure, organized space for tools and other belongings. Many of these boxes are designed to increase otherwise unused spaces, such as the Weatherguard Lo Side, which sits above your truck box, allowing for more storage beneath. The compartments in these boxes improve how you are able to organize your storage, and provide additional storage space.

Truck Box Liner Options

If you have a truck, then you absolutely need a truck box liner to protect it. Fortunately, though, if you shop at Auto Truck Depot, you can easily find all kinds of liners in one convenient place and at a price to fit your budget.

There are benefits and drawbacks to all liner materials, and it’s really just about finding the liner material that works for you.

One of the cheaper, but often not as durable, options for truck box liner material is plastic. You can also find easy spray-in liners, rubber liners, wood liners, and more; with so many options available, you’d better start shopping now!

Managing Your Truck Bed

One of the greatest things about owning a truck is the fact that you have a truck bed ready to use at any time. Your truck bed can haul cargo, transport additional pets and people, and even provide a cozy place to camp out under the stars. However, without the right truck bed accessories, your truck bed can’t do everything you want it to; for this reason, you’ll want to give some thought to what accessories you’ll get the most use out of and then invest in the ones you truly want and need.

Image 1One very good accessory to have, especially if you regularly haul cargo, is a cargo gate. These gates can keep your items from sliding off of your truck bed and out onto the street. Cargo bars are also quite good at keeping items secured, and they’re even better at sectioning cargo areas to keep your items organized.

There are also cargo nets, truck bed extenders, swing cases, hitch racks, lock boxes, and many other great truck bed accessories available, and you can find all of them at Auto Truck Depot.

Choosing a Truck Box

truck_box.jpgAre you shopping for a truck box? If so, you’ll want to give some real thought to the shopping process to ensure that you end up making a purchase you can feel good about. Obviously, the first thing you’ll want to consider is what you intend to put into the box. That will determine what size of box you’ll need; make sure you keep in mind the overall size of your truck bed as well and how much room the box will take up in your truck bed.
Once you know the size of truck box you’ll need, take care to choose a box that’s made of a strong, durable material, one that won’t rust, rot, or be easily damaged due to wear and tear or exposure to natural elements. You should also consider whether or not you want a box that’s capable of locking and if there are any other features that would come in handy.

You can find a wide variety of boxes to choose from by shopping at Auto Truck Depot.

Towing Trailers Safely

Trailers are a wonderful vehicle accessory to own; they allow you to tow large amounts of cargo without filling up or weighing down your vehicle. It’s important, however, to take precautions to ensure that you are traveling as safely as possible when you use your trailer. In fact, any time you are planning to go somewhere with your trailer attached, you should perform a quick safety inspection first.
curtHitches.jpg
The first thing you’ll want to look at is the pin that attaches the ball mount to the receiver; check to make sure that pin is safe and secure. Then, move on to check the hitch coupler, which can be found on all trailer hitches. Also make sure the spring bar hinges are firmly attached and then attach the safety clips if applicable and the safety chains.

You will need to perform these easy checks with all trailer hitches; however, you can reduce the likelihood of ever encountering a problem if you’re using only the highest quality hitches, such as those that can be found at Auto Truck Depot.

Tips for Traveling with Cargo

So, you’ve got your truck loaded down with cargo and are about to head out—not so fast, though. Did you know that, if you don’t take the proper precautions, traveling with a lot of cargo can be very dangerous? Fortunately, you can ensure safe travels by keeping a few simple tips in mind.
TonneauCovers.jpgFor starters, make sure you’ve packed only the bare necessities and that you haven’t gone over the recommended carrying weight for your vehicle. Carrying too much cargo cannot only reduce your gas mileage, causing you to have to stop and fill up more frequently, but it can also increase the risk of a vehicle rollover.

Once you’ve made sure that you aren’t carrying too much cargo, sit down in the driver’s seat and glance around to ensure that your cargo isn’t arranged in such a way so as to block your view of other drivers on the road. Also make sure that everything is properly secured and won’t go flying off the back of your vehicle. Tonneau covers can really come in handy for keeping items secured and, as an added bonus, they provide extra security for your cargo if you have to leave it unattended. You can find tonneau covers and other great cargo carrying accessories at Auto Truck Depot

Getting Your Truck Winter-Ready

It’s already cold outside, and it won’t be long before full-blown winter is here! Chances are that you’ve already stocked up on sweaters and coats to get you through the cold months ahead, but what have you done to get your truck ready? Just as you have to prepare for winter, your truck has to be prepared too.

Before winter comes, it is imperative that you get your truck to a qualified mechanic who can check to make sure that your battery is in good condition, that you’ve got adequate antifreeze, that your heater and defroster are working, and that your truck’s thermostat is in good, working order.

You should also give your truck’s tires a good glance-over. You don’t want to be driving down icy roads on tires without enough tread; in fact, if you can afford to, you may want to invest in a good pair of snow tires for use in the winter.  At the very least, you’re going to want to check out snow plows so that you can clear a path with your truck and get where you need to go all winter long. You can find snow plows and other great products to get your truck winter-ready at Auto Truck Depot.

Preventing Truck Rust

A rusty truck is an unattractive truck, but fortunately, there are things you can do to prevent truck rusting from occurring. Before you can stop rusting from happening, however, you have to understand the different things that can cause your truck to rust in the first place.

One of the leading causes of truck rusting is humidity; many people think their trucks are safe from rusting if they keep them from getting rained on or being exposed to moisture for long periods of time, but when the air is very humid, rust can form even on fully covered, dry trucks. Since you can’t eliminate humidity in the air, the best thing you can do is to regularly have a rust check service performed on your vehicle.

A rust check service will provide a protective covering to your truck that will keep rust from forming. You can get everything you need for this service by contacting Auto Truck Depot.

Repairing Stone Chips

Everyone wants to have a pristine truck, but, unfortunately, keeping a truck looking great is no easy feat. Regular driving, even on well-paved roads, can often lead to stone chips on your truck; stone chips, which occur when rocks fly up, hit your truck, and take a tiny bit of your truck’s paint with them, can show up anywhere on trucks but are most common on the front and sides of trucks. While you might not notice one or two stone chips, several chips or one large chip can be quite noticeable and unattractive. Fortunately, these chips are also relatively easy to fix.
All you really need to do to fix them is to select touch-up paint that matches your truck’s color; matching up paint can be tricky, so give this first step some careful attention. Once you’ve got the right paint, fixing stone chips is just a matter of sanding the damaged area and carefully applying the paint.

Of course, it’s much better to just prevent chips from occurring in the first place, something you can easily do with a good running board. The right running board can protect the sides of your vehicle, while mud flaps can protect the back end. You can find both of these products and many other excellent protective products at Auto Truck Depot.

Keeping a Tidy Truck

There’s nothing worse than an untidy truck, one that’s littered with fast food wrappers, soda cans, and that just has a general “icky” feel. Fortunately, you don’t have to let your truck become “that truck,” and if your truck is already a mess, well, know that there are things you can do to get it looking great again.
car_liners.gif
First and foremost, it should go without saying that you need to have floor mats in your vehicle. Floor mats will absorb moisture, keep spills from staining your upholstery, and make it easier to get dirt and dust out of your vehicle with a quick shake of the mat. Floor mats, however, aren’t enough to keep your truck looking tidy; you also need to make sure that you are throwing away any trash that accumulates and that you are doing so on a regular basis.

A good strategy for keeping trash out of your truck is to have a plastic grocery bag on hand to use as a trash bag. You can easily empty it every time you stop to get gas and will always have somewhere to put your trash besides the floor or the bed of your truck.

While these tips can keep the interior of your truck clean, what about the exterior? Well, obviously, regular washing is important, and you can also invest in other great products, such as mud flaps, to keep your truck looking its best. Mud flaps, for the record, are not only good at keeping mud off your truck’s back end, but they can also keep rocks and other debris from making dents in or causing other damage to your truck. You can find these products and anything else you might need to keep your truck clean at Auto Truck Depot.

Velazquez Samaniego Charged with Manslaughter

By now, most people have heard of Velazquez Samaniego, the monster truck driver from Chihuahua, Mexico who killed 9 people and injured eight more in a recent accident. After making headlines for over a week, Samaniego was finally charged with manslaughter, and local prosecutors have stated that the driver did not meet all of the necessary requirements to drive the monster truck being used at the time of the accident.

D2 LED Light Wide at Autotruckdepot.caWhether Samaniego should be charged or not is a matter of opinion, but the driver does still maintain that the event was an accident. His story is that he lost his helmet, hit his head, and, after being knocked unconscious, ended up running into the crowd of people gathered to watch him participate in the event.
The really sad thing is that this tragic accident could have been prevented. Stricter guidelines and requirements for driving monster trucks should be enforced, and safety features such as lightbars, could have been used to alert spectators to any possible troubles.

While nothing can undo these tragic, recent events, you can keep yourself from being involved in such an accident by investing in lightbars and other safety features for your vehicle.

General Motors Recalls Vehicles

jeep logo

There are people in the world who say that nothing runs or performs quite like a Jeep. These are the people who spend all their money on Jeep accessories and who refuse to drive anything else. While you might think these people are crazy for their devotion to Jeeps, a recent recall from General Motors should be enough to make you think twice.

The company recently announced that it is recalling 21,721 of its new Chevrolet Silverado models and GMC Sierra models because the front seats are capable of shifting if the vehicle is impacted from the rear. Most of the recalled models (18,972 of them!) were sold in the United States, though a large chunk (2,575) were also sold in Canada. It’s worth nothing that this isn’t the first recall for General Motors, which recalled 843 vehicles in the summer of 2013 for airbag problems.

Jeeps, on the other hand, rarely get recalled, making them a safe bet, so go ahead and stock up on those Jeep accessories at Auto Truck Depot.

Testing the Camaro

2010 Camaro

Shopping for hood protectors and other accessories can be fun, but what’s the point in buying all these add-ons if you don’t have a vehicle that knows how to perform? If you’re looking for a vehicle that’s not just pretty but also able to perform, then consider the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1, which was recently tested at the infamous Nurburgring in Germany.

The vehicle was able to make the 13 mile trip around the ring in only a little over seven and a half minutes, beating out the 991 Porsche and several other automobiles. To top it all off, the trial run took place on a wet and rainy day, leaving spectators to wonder just how the vehicle would have performed in perfect conditions.

Whether you’ve got a Camaro or some other vehicle that knows how to perform, it’s important to fully protect it so that it can keep performing for you. You can purchase hood protectors and other great accessories to keep your vehicle performing at its best from Auto Truck Depot.
